why we are
In September 2007, a small group of grandparents who are raising their grandchildren began meeting together to support and encourage each other in their unique and demanding roles.  Now - Spring of 2010, as we begin our third year this group has grown to over 23 families . . . and includes over 44 children.  Our time together has developed relationships and friendships that will last a lifetime - and not only for the adults but also for our children.

what we are
MONTHLY SUPPORT MEETING We meet on the THIRD THURSDAY of each month at 305 East Main Street , Centreville  MI  (United Methodist Church)   6:00 – 8:00 pm (new time as of Oct 2009)  There is on-site child care and a free lite meal offered.  Guest speakers and open discussion/sharing times combined with an evening of fellowship and fun with other grandparents and kinship givers.

RESPITE CARE By attending our monthly support meeting (third Thursday of each month), each grandparent raising grandchildren and other respite care givers will be entitled to free respite time. For each child, four (4) one hour coupons will be given out.  The coupons can be used at participating licensed day care providers in St Joseph County.  Coupons good for thirty days - and available at each monthly support meeting for those who attended.

GRANDMA'S ATTIC Often when a child is removed from it's parents environment, and due to the circumstances, the law enforcement person takes the child(ren) with nothing - no clothes, favorite toys, etc.  We are forming GRANDMA'S ATTIC to help provide the placement home (grandparents/other relative) with basic necessities until other help becomes available.  We are accepting donations of furniture (cribs; toddler's beds; bunk beds and the likes); infant and youth clothing in good/excellent condition; and other things like diapers, toys, books, etc.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING At different times and locations, mini workshops are offered to help keep the kinship care giver informed and educated.  Resource material and help is also available.
