SPECIAL SERVICES
RESPITE COUPONS
By attending our monthly support meeting (third Thursday of each month), each grandparent raising grandchildren and other respite care givers will be entitled to free respite time.
For each child, four (4) one hour coupons will be given out. The coupons can be used at participating licensed day care providers in St Joseph County. Coupons good for thirty days - and available at each monthly support meet for those who attended.
GRANDMA'S ATTIC
It is in the beginning stages - often when a child is removed from it's parents environment, and due to the circumstances, the law enforcement person takes the child(ren) with nothing - no clothes, favorite toys, etc. We are forming GRANDMA'S ATTIC to help provide the placement home (grandparents/other relative) with basic necessities until other help becomes available. We are accepting donations of furniture (cribs; toddler's beds; bunk beds and the likes); infant and youth clothing in good/excellent condition; and other things like diapers, toys, books, etc.
(NOTE: MEIJER STORE OF THREE RIVERS MICHIGAN HAS DONATED FUNDS FOR SOME OF OUR STORAGE CONTAINERS - Thanks Meijer!)
RESOURCE CENTER and LIBRARY
From information on current topics relating to kinship care - to self help books and materials - to just good reading, the Resource Center and Library is located at the Commission on Aging Center in Three Rivers - and available to our grandparents to help keep informed on current issues of interest.
PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS/AWARENESS
If you wish to have a awareness/introduction presentation on the GRANDPARENT - KINSHIP CARE situation in St Joseph County area; ways you or your organization could be involved; what things you could do to help, please contact our Project Manager for details and fees
MINI SERIES PRESENTATIONS
Twice a year, though out different locations across St Joseph County, we offer a five/six weeks mini information series (once a week / 2 hours long / 5 consecutive weeks). Topics that help to educate, inspire and encourage those who are doing kinship care.
